ORPHANAGES EAST BULGARIA
During 2007, Global Compassion chairman Rob Smillie was introduced to two State run orphanages in East Bulgaria. One of the orphanages cares for children from a few days old to about 4 years of age. When the children in this orphanage who have not been adopted reach the age of 4 years they are transferred to the other orphanage where they are accommodated and well cared for by very dedicated staff until the age of 16. At this time there are about 130 children in the ‘Baby’ orphanage and 52 in the older children’s orphanage. Budgets within the State system are very restricted at this time, which severely limits funding for essential maintenance of plant and equipment. Global Compassion has purchased two much needed industrial washing machines for the laundry in the ‘Baby’ orphanage. The machines they replaced had very much reached the end of their working lives.

Summer Holidays funded by Global Compassion

Summer holidays for the 45 children of Kaspichan State Orphanage, Bulgaria have always been limited in duration and range of activities by lack of available funds.

The Trustees of Global Compassion all have children of their own and know how precious good, fun filled memories of summer holidays are to children, so a decision was made to donate enough funding to the orphanage to ensure the children had an extended holiday at the Black Sea resort of Obzor.

Gala, the orphanage director, said the children had a wonderful time at the beach and that it meant so much to the staff to be able to have the finance to plan and provide a great holiday for the children. The staff wish to pass on their thanks to all who gave to this project.
