CAIRO GIRLS PROJECT
Global Compassion is supporting a project in Cairo, Egypt, which focuses on abused girls aged 11 to 19 some of whom scavenge for anything of value on a local rubbish dump. Other girls live on the streets, or just live in total poverty. In most cases this also involves working with the families of the girls as well. Currently the project involves 160 girls, although there is contact with up to 500.

Orphanage
Our Involvement

A total of 27 girls are being sponsored through school with fees and uniforms being paid, the families receive monthly food parcels to compensate the loss of earnings from the girls. In total 55 families receive food parcels each month.

Recent medical assessments have determined that 55 out of the 160 girls on the programme need regular medicines in connection with Diabetes and Hepatitis C which have been contracted through their work on the rubbish dump.
