Lighthouse Project, Surkhet, Nepal
The Lighthouse Project in Nepal provides safe drinking water, education, accommodation and rehabilitation for street children who have often been abandoned and abused.

The life of street children in Nepal is one of desperation and misery. Abandoned by parents who can no longer afford them, they pick through the rubbish for food and scavenge for plastic to sell. Drug use among these children is prolific.

The Light House gives children the opportunity to come off the streets and live in a loving home. They are provided with food, clothing and education, eventually being reintegrated into the community with hope for the future and self supporting skills.

PROJECT UPDATE - April 2009
The orphanages are in rented properties and are now becoming over crowded with limited washing and toilet facilities. To provide better facilities for the children of Nepal, Global Compassion has recently purchased 1.1 acres of farmland in a safe and secure area where a much larger children's home and medical centre can be built and maintained.

The centre can provide medical screening and an outreach service that can go into local villages and in particular the villages of the Badhai people. This people group's primary source of income is through prostitution of the women and children.

Sponsor a Child

CHILD SPONSORSHIP
Global Compassion is also supporting the work of the Light House by providing ongoing sponsorship for each child. This continuing financial commitment is vital to the success of the project as the children will need consistent help while they grow up. We are committed to providing that help.

Why sponsor a child?
Global Compassion is committed to providing long term support for the Light House project through child sponsorship. Your sponsorship money will go directly to the project, meeting the needs of one child.

How long does sponsorship last?
There is no minimum time period for child sponsorship, but regular ongoing giving in encouraged. If your personal circumstances change at any time you can cancel your sponsorship by simply cancelling your standing order. Don't worry - your sponsored child will still continue to be looked after, but please advise us if you do cancel so that we can find another sponsor.

How much does child sponsorship cost?
It costs £24 a month to sponsor a child. That’s just 80p a day, 80p which will make a huge difference to a child that would otherwise be living rough on the streets.

Will you let me know how my money is being used?
As a sponsor, you will receive an update on the Light House project each year. Sponsorship is for an individual child, but due to the nature of the project we cannot give you the name of a particular child. If the one child leaves the project they will be replaced by another, so your money will not be wasted.

How do I sponsor a child?
Email us your name, address and telephone number and we will send you our bank details for you to set up a standing order from your bank for £24 a month.
