CRIMEAN SKIN CLINIC FOR CHILDREN WITH STIs
The clinic, in Simferopal, the capital of the Crimea, provides treatment for children 3-16 years of age, some of whom are orphans. These children have invariably contracted sexually transmitted diseases in-utero.

Up to 1000 children per year are accommodated in the clinic for two weeks every six months whilst they receive treatment for their conditions.

Our Involvement

Since 2007 Global Compassion has been working with this local state run clinic and in that year supplied it with new refrigeration. It had never had refrigerated food storage despite temperatures in the Crimea regularly exceeding 30 degrees during the long summer. The installation of the refrigeration plant has enabled the storage of foodstuffs resulting in significant savings in this area.

In January 2008, Global Compassion supplied funding for much needed tables and chairs in the children’s activity room of the clinic. In April, this new furniture was delivered to the delight of all children and staff. In the Spring of 2009, Global Compassion replaced the 50 old Soviet-era beds and bedside cupboards with 50 new high quality, modern beds complete with comfortable mattresses, linen and new bedside cabinets.
